Cachapoal Valley, Chile. Lapostolle Las Kuras vineyard.
100% Syrah
The 2006-2007 season in the Cachapoal Valley was colder with normal amounts of rain in the winter. Spring was quite normal but, budding occurred a few days earlier. There was a light frost in October that affected the central part of the country creating some damage to our Syrah, reducing our production slightly. We had an earlier flowering in November and no rain during the fruit’s ripening season. Therefore, we had slow ripening conditions with low yields per plant. We started picking with a strict selection, block by block, the second week of March. We obtained wines that are showing promising results, concentrated yet elegant.
Our Las Kuras Syrah is very special. We hand harvested all the grapes in early hours of the morning in small plastic cases of 15 kilos and sent them in refrigerated trucks to our winery in Colchagua. We carefully selected the best fruit and allowed for wild yeast fermentation. During whole berry maceration we manually punched down the cap to increase skin contact. Malolactic fermentation was employed in barrels. Year after year our Syrah is showing a special complexity of aromas; with spices, black fruit and some minerality. In the mouth the wine is concentrated and yet elegant.
